Christophe Tissot, encre et pastel sec sur papier signé et daté 4.V.2025 - Dim: 29,7 x 21 cm

This exhibition presents a recent selection of works on paper by artist Christophe Tissot.

In this new series, the artist revisits the pages of his original manuscript entitled Le vase de Raymonde – Van Gogh des Soleils dans la nuit (Raymonde’s Vase – Van Gogh’s Suns in the Night), written in 2019, using ink and pastel. On these A4 sheets, two forms of expression – writing and drawing – are superimposed, interacting and complementing each other in the same space.

Quite naturally, the theme of the face, which predominates in Christophe Tissot’s work, makes its appearance here, echoing the omnipresence of the portrait, and of the self-portrait so dear to Vincent Van Gogh.

Through this double writing – visual and literary – Christophe Tissot explores in his own way the passionate and complex relationship between Vincent Van Gogh and Paul Gauguin, as he freely reinterprets it in his narrative.

This double articulation literary and graphic confirms his personal and original vision of the complex and tormented history between these two great painters of the late 19th
century.
