It is perhaps from the silence of the studio and the meditative process of creation that Sabatina Leccia’s poetic visions emerge. She brings these visions to life here through photography, drawing, and video. They are imbued with a textile sensitivity, inherited from her grandmothers, that remains dear to her. With their needles, stitch by stitch, the artist constellates reality, striving to bring more wonder, beauty, and light into the world.
For this first solo exhibition at Galerie XII, Sabatina Leccia brings together her drawings, photographs, and latest video experiments to show that, despite the variety of media and supports, a singular sensitivity connects all her works—a sensitivity that delights in exploring the fragile and the invisible, piercing the surface to let light emerge.
This sensitivity is also nourished by long hours of working stitch by stitch in silence. From this suspended, slow time, amidst the chaos of the world, arises an inspiration that comes from the depths, allowing the artist to access the thickness of her dreams, her memories—her “intimate germinations.” Within this silence lies, perhaps, an eternal quest to seek inner light, to search for that sun that soothes and heals.
Thus, Sabatina Leccia offers a sensitive journey, a way to experience a moment suspended at the threshold between sun and night—a gentle invitation to engage with her images and, in turn, take the time to inhabit your own silences.

The gallery

Galerie XII, founded by Valerie-Anne Giscard d’Estaing in 2007 in Paris focuses on contemporary photography and strives to promote artists with a strong narrative sensibility, often working with a multidisciplinary approach especially at the intersection of photography, painting, sculpture and collage. The gallery has recently opened its program to international contemporary artists whose works engage in material experimentation and cross-disciplinary approaches.

The emerging and established artists with whom the gallery collaborates are presented both in its exhibition spaces and in institutional exhibitions or at international fairs, reflecting the richness and diversity of these approaches.

In 2018, Galerie XII opened a space in Santa Monica, California, at the heart of a booming art scene. Its mission is to promote both European and American artists through solo and group exhibitions.

A member of the Comité Professionnel des Galeries d'Art and AIPAD, Galerie XII develops collaborations with curators and institutions, affirming its role as a significant player in the contemporary photography landscape.
