Les filles du calvaire
Katinka Lampe & Janine Van Oene Chili
"Crossed Wires"
In the exhibition, the works of two Dutch artists are presented. At first glance, the work of Katinka Lampe and Janine van Oene stand out. Through the dialogue they maintain with each other in this exhibition, the viewer gains deeper access to everything that preceded the exhibition. By delving into the creative process of both artists, the similarities become evident. Katinka Lampe’s work is figurative. It deals with the human, the way we look at each other and are looked at. Lampe creates an intermediary between reality and her painting, initially conducting photo sessions with her models. These images serve as her starting point. The act of painting ultimately leads her towards a new, unknown representation. One could call it a semblance of reality.
Janine van Oene’s work combines intuitive abstraction and lyricism. While in her earlier works, clearly figurative elements emerged, her work is increasingly rooted in the abstract world. “In my practice, the process of painting is central. I am fascinated by the luscious qualities of oil paint, by the magic of mixing, and by the search for the perfect color.”

The gallery
The gallery Les filles du calvaire, founded in 1996 by Stéphane Magnan in the Marais in Paris, is historically located at 17 rue des filles du calvaire. In 2023, the gallery opens a second space of 300m2 at 21 rue Chapon to develop its activities.
The gallery is dedicated to contemporary creation. The artists it represents come from multiple horizons. The program is thus rich in dialogue between the commitments and practices of each one.
