Zoom on women artists

The National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA) in Washington DC (USA) was founded in 1987 by Wilhelmina Cole Holladay and Wallace F. Holladay. The first museum in the world dedicated exclusively to recognizing the talent of women artists, in all art disciplines, the NMWA aims to make women artists visible.

The Association des Amis du NMWA in Paris, like 27 other associations around the world, promotes the museum’s commitment to women and works to raise the profile of women artists, particularly emerging artists living and working in France. In addition to cultural sharing, each year the NMWA Friends Association defines several programs in which it is involved both financially and through active volunteer work.

To improve the visibility of women in museums, fairs and galleries, the Friends of the NMWA are closely involved in the “Some of Us” project, the first anthology of the 21st century women’s art scene in France. Three hundred artists are highlighted by visuals of emblematic works; such an edition has never been produced before.
