Mayoral
"Rêve"
Group show
In spring 2024, Mayoral will present, at its premises on Avenue Matignon, an exhibition dedicated to the theme of dreams and their role in shaping the artistic language of 20th-century artists. The name of this exhibition is inspired by “Trajectoire du rêve” by André Breton (1938), in which he created an anthology of dreams, gathering texts from artists of different eras, demonstrating that dreams have always been a vast source of inspiration for artists. We will also publish an exclusive interview with Hans Ulrich Obrist on the theme, as he also explores this idea in his project ‘Sogni/Dreams’ (1999), gathering testimonies of dreams from contemporary artists.
In our exhibition, we aim to extend this exploration of the role of dreams in artists’ work. Through a unique tapestry hung on walls and a vibrant blue ceiling, we aim to recreate the idea of a dream, giving visitors the sensation of wandering among the various dreams of each artist. Several small-scale works will be displayed, forming a constellation of canvases. Each canvas, like a dream floating in space, will materialize the dream of its author.
