Galeria Mayoral
Salvador Dalí , Espagne
ULTRALOCAL/ULTRAGLOBAL
Conceived in collaboration with curator Chus Martinez, Dalí Ultralocal/Ultraglobal presents a selection of six works which allow us to (re)discover the artistic universe of Salvador Dalí through the lens of two seemingly contradictory aspects of his œuvre and character : his cosmopolitanism (notably his experiences abroad – in Paris, where he discovered Surrealism, and in the United States of America, where he undertook diverse projects in collaboration with personalities such as Walt Disney) and his deep-rooted ties to the poetic landscape and culture of his native Catalonia. The exhibition demonstrates that it was in fact the artist’s embracing of the very essence of his Catalan roots which shaped his unique artistic language and thus made his universal relevance possible; that, within this very duality lay the key to liberating his creativity. “All that is contradictory creates life,” he proclaimed.
Exhibition from March 28 to May 28, 2023.
The gallery
Mayoral, founded in 1989, is a gallery located in Barcelona and Paris. The gallery articulates an intergenerational exhibition programme focused on the best of post-war and contemporary Spanish art, promoting artists such as Tàpies, Chillida, Millares, Saura, Zóbel, Francés and Chordà, alongside works by key twentieth-century avant-garde artists such as Miró and Picasso, and the best of today’s generation with names such as Macarrón, Oliver, Pratts and Barriga.
The gallery develops projects that are rigorously curated and grow out of an exhaustive process of research. The gallery relies upon the support of the artists’ families, foundations and other institutions as well as collectors and museums, both public and private, when it comes to accomplishing its mission.
In recent years Mayoral has presented projects such as “Miró’s Studio,” and retrospectives dedicated to Millares, Tàpies, Saura and Chordà, as well as dialogues between artists such as Miró/Zao Wou-Ki and Francés/Vieira da Silva, which delved into the creative process of the artists and analysed how their work continues to be relevant today.
The gallery participates in art fairs such as Art|Basel Miami Beach, Art|Basel Hong Kong, TEFAF Maastricht, TEFAF New York and ARCOmadrid.
