Jousse Entreprise

Jennifer Caubet 1982, France

For her third solo exhibition at the gallery, Jennifer Caubet presents a new body of work exploring a poetics of air circulation, mechanical respiration, and compression dynamics transposed into the space of art.
Revealing the unsettling proximity between civil innovation and military applications, the artist presents a series of metal and glass sculptures that draw on the formal language of computer processor architecture, eerily evoking shells. Compressed found objects and reclaimed clothing take on the appearance of soldier busts and spears, while assembled anti-squat grilles suggest a certain opacity of reality. These sculptural devices, charged with tension and resistance, questions our perception of the objects and systems surrounding us.

Solo show by Jennifer Caubet

The gallery

For almost 30 years, Philippe Jousse has had a deep interest in the aesthetics of 20th century furniture, ceaselessly contributing to the recognition of designers and artists such as Jean Prouvé, Charlotte Perriand, Mathieu Matégot, Le Corbusier… He has played an essential role in the development of French and foreign collectors’ tastes, by developing two parallel activities, in architect-designed furniture and in contemporary art. In 2001, Philippe Jousse separated his activities and opened a gallery dedicated to promoting contemporary art. The artistic line adopted aims to support emerging artists at the same time as renowned figures. The artists represented by the Jousse Entreprise gallery are living in France, and enjoy an international standing.
