Valentin Rilliet (b. in 1996) is a Swiss-Chinese visual artist who predominantly works in oil painting and ink drawing. His artistic practice includes intercultural studies and the reinterpretation of mythologies, folklore, symbolism, and historical events. By exploring his mixed heritage, his works are filled with layered and ambiguous narratives often combined with ghostly anachronistic figures and motifs specific to the languages between a diverse set of art historical canons.

For this first solo exhibition in France and his second with Galerie Peter Kilchmann, he will present works on paper and oil paintings on canvas. Some of his works were created during a three-month residency in Shanghai, China.

The gallery

Galerie Peter Kilchmann was founded in 1992 by Peter Kilchmann in the emerging Zürich-West district in Switzerland. Between 1996 and 2010, it developed into an internationally renowned gallery representing artists from Switzerland, the USA, and various European and Latin American countries. The gallery gained recognition through exhibitions that questioned established narratives and focused on critical, non-Western perspectives.
In 2011, the gallery relocated to larger premises at Zahnradstrasse 21 in the Maag district of ZürichWest. With the opening of a second location at Rämistrasse 33 in the heart of Zurich, near the Kunsthaus Zürich, in 2021, the gallery continued its expansion. The opening of a gallery space in the Parisian district of Le Marais in October 2022 marked the latest chapter in its ongoing growth.
