The Galerie Peter Kilchmann is delighted to present “Twoness,” the first European solo exhibition by American artist Travis Boyer (born in 1979 in Fort Worth, Texas. Lives and works in New York) in the gallery’s project space. Under the title “Twoness,” Boyer aims to explore how we possess a deep and vast vocabulary that includes binaries, twins, connections, couples, echoes, but also how there are many tender states of duality that we experience which lack a name. On each of the nine panels of silk velvet, combining in many ways approaches of painting and craftsmanship through the tools he employs, the subjects engage in crucial moments of collision, self-definition, or reconciliation in sensual compositions that prompt reflection on these dual instances.

The gallery
Peter Kilchmann opened his first gallery in 1992 in a former factory in the west of Zurich. A small group of galleries ventured into this industrial quarter, which had yet to acquire its current allure. This revolutionary movement, driven by curiosity and a pioneering spirit, contributed to the flourishing of the contemporary art scene in Zurich. The gallery's programming focused on photography and video art; mediums that were still relatively new and rarely exhibited. During the first four years, the origins of the current program began to take shape. The gallery reached maturity and entered a new phase by relocating to the Löwenbräu Areal in 1996. Between 1996 and 2010, it became a successful international enterprise. With the move to Zahnradstrasse in 2011 and the opening of new premises on Rämistrasse in 2021, the gallery continued to evolve. Each of these stages was marked by curiosity, euphoria, and, of course, taking certain risks. The opening in Paris, at 11-13 rue des Arquebusiers in the Marais in October 2022, marks another chapter. Initially, Peter Kilchmann mainly exhibited artists from his own generation and has since been committed to paving the way for a generation of emerging artists. Over the past thirty years, the gallery has continued to develop a coherent program representing artists from Latin America, Europe, and the United States. A conceptual approach to the creative process and socio-political circumstances - sometimes in surprising language - distinguishes his program, whose artists cover all areas of creative expression: painting, video, film, photography, installation, or sculpture. All the artists share a firm stance through which they know how to convey their viewpoints and engage the viewer with the subject at hand.
