Jardin des simples brings together new works by Guillaume Castel: sculptures and inks. Nature plays a central role in the artist’s work. In botany, simples are medicinal herbs. Gardens made up of these plants, with the addition of a few aromatics, form gardens of simples.

Jardin des simples plays on the polysemy of the term simple. The adjective designates natural honesty and spontaneous uprightness. Guillaume Castel’s works are striking in their simplicity: they draw from nature.

To extend the exhibition, the public will be able to see one of Guillaume Castel’s works at the second Grandeur Nature Biennial at the Château de Fontainebleau.

The gallery

Galerie Ariane C-Y focuses on emerging French and international contemporary art: drawing, painting, sculpture and embroidery. The gallery supports ultra-contemporary creation. Each exhibition project is designed in close collaboration with the artist. The themes explored by the gallery highlight a form of contemporary intimacy. They relate to the body, home or nature. The artists represented by the gallery are strongly rooted in the History of art. The gallery is located at 21 rue Chapon in Paris, in Le Marais. As an art historian, graduated from École du Louvre, Ariane C-Y publishes catalogues that reflect her constant dialogue with the artists. Galerie Ariane C-Y has participated in fairs since its creation in 2014, both in France and abroad. In recent years, it has notably been present at Art Paris, Luxembourg Art Week, Drawing Now, PAN Amsterdam and Ceramic Brussels. The gallery is open all year long from Wednesday to Saturday and on Tuesday by appointment only.
