Nature overflows in the work of Cristina Almodóvar (Madrid, 1970). The limits between the organic and the inorganic, between drawing and sculpture, between two and three dimensions, are crossed by the author, who projects her thoughts on the beauty of Nature to recreate her particular universe.  The ability to transform materials through her sculptural work establishes both a plastic and conceptual relationship with matter. A diverse work, in which nothing is what it seems at first glance. The apparent rock is cardboard. The branches are iron. The drawings escape from the paper to become sculptures. The fragile becomes solid, the opposites are always present in his work. Everything overflows its conceptual framework, as the pieces themselves, which are shown overflowing the physical framework that hosts it.

Underneath the careful and calm appearance of the works, we can sense a multiplicity of concepts, reflections and evocations that invite us to immerse ourselves in that depth that we feel when contemplating Nature and its cycles. Through the contemplative peace provided by the pieces, one enters into a reality that surpasses any rational limit, that transcends it, escaping from any conventional vision. The poetry of matter appears, in works that are incorporated into the space that welcomes them, giving it another meaning. Everything moves, escaping from the conventional in the work of this artist, who from her sculptural training, expands the limits of sculpture.

The gallery

Dutko Gallery was founded in 1969. Initially specializing in Art Deco furniture, and in particular the work of French designer Eugène Printz, which Jean-Jacques Dutko has helped to rediscover, the gallery's DNA gradually developed around the dialogue between artists' furniture, sculpture and painting.

Historically present in Saint-Germain-des-Près, in 2010 Dutko Gallery opened a new space on rue de Bretonvilliers on the Ile Saint-Louis. The opening marks the intensified development of the gallery's contemporary art program, a central element of its activity.

In 2022, the rue Bonaparte space was replaced by a larger one at 17 quai Voltaire.
