“From the disorder of the Grand Siècle, the chaos of Rococo, the Expressionism of Genre.

I paint as a frivolous, joyful, and pessimistic woman, with an undisciplined classicism and a shameful gluttony.

Exploring academic techniques to create tension between order, measure, and a touching disharmony. De-idealizing the noble human figure with tenderness and irony.”

The gallery

The Marie Vitoux gallery has been in existence for over thirty years. All these years have been devoted to promoting painters, sculptors, and performers whose artistic qualities I sensed. I followed my instincts, my heart's desires. Emotion invites itself in, embrace or extortion? Emovere also means disturbance: it is an art that unsettles.

To name but a few: Maurice Rocher, Rustin, Cremonini, Velickovic, and the younger artists Olivier de Sagazan, C. Rizzo, N. Bourdreux, F. Metzger, C. Griffon du Bellay, P. de Laborderie... we are faced with these creative portraits, direct and sometimes violent, and these sudden appearances, these flashes of human shadows that appear in a disturbed space, an illogical time. With perfect technique, the viewer moves through this vast wasteland of life: an adventure that speaks of the unbearable and its bright spots. Humans, conscious of this oscillating, unsettling present, bring “freedom and necessity” into alignment.

The line of artists I represent is often linked to expressionism, but also to an “existential figuration” that is always engaged with the contemporary world.
