Lucy Fradkin, He was a Plumber, an Electrician, a Carpenter, a Cabinetmaker, a Tiler, a Blacksmith and a Mechanic, 2008, Huile sur papier avec crayon, 170 x 132 cm

The gallery presents Lucy Fradkin’s first solo exhibition in France.
Born in the United States and based in New York, Fradkin creates intimate scenes in her paintings and works on paper, in which the human figure takes centre stage. Drawing inspiration from sources ranging from Persian and Indian miniatures to folk art and the tradition of hand-painted shop signs, her work combines frontal figures, chromatic intensity and decorative structures to create
compositions in which narrative and psychological presence unfold with restraint.

Her works often depict figures in intimate domestic spaces, where patterns, textiles and objects contribute to a dense visual architecture. Through these images, Fradkin explores family relationships, memory and personal narratives.

The gallery

Founded by Éric Rodrigue and Éric Dereumaux, Gallery RX moved to the Golden Triangle in 2002. In 2011, they inaugurated a monumental 1500 m² site at the gates of Ivry sur Seine, the former laboratory of the Joliot Curie couple. This new space, built for experimentation, is designed to experience contemporary art. It is a multi-faceted hybrid space, ranging from residences to storage but also turns into an exhibition gallery, enabling artist to create in situ works and to present monumental pieces.

In October 2016, the project was to settle in the Marais, born out of the desire to be closer to fellow gallerists in a district where the heart and flow of contemporary art is undeniably anchored. It finally came to fruition with the inauguration of the new 640m2 space. This private mansion, formerly known as the Hôtel Gegault de Crisenoy, is located between the Musée Picasso and the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature.

The RX Gallery presents the works of emerging and established artists from the French and international scenes. The layout of this new space offers the gallery’s artists new exhibition perspectives, and favors collaborations with curators and international artists.

The gallery also develops parallel projects with public institutions, private institutions and proposes itinerant exhibitions. Very much involved in art fairs, the gallery participates in Paris Photo, Art Paris, Art Brussels and FAB Paris, for which it is a member of their selection committee.

In 2021, the gallery opened in the United States in association with Slag Gallery, which has been present in New York for 15 years. The new entity, RX&SLAG, gives impetus to a dynamic where the expertise of each of the two galleries on the French and American scenes, help to reveal a young artistic scene whilst developing the representation of transatlantic historical artists.
