The exhibition “In Light and in Shadow”, a dialogue between Aude Herlédan and Eleanor Lakelin, expresses their shared fascination with the driving forces of form. It illustrates the realm of possibilities from which each work emerges: a space where both shadow and light play a role in revelation. Their practice may be seen as an exploration, guiding the material as it crosses the threshold between darkness and light, background and foreground, interior and exterior, emptiness and substance. Ideally, the artwork becomes the place and the moment where our presence is most deeply engaged — where poetry intertwines with creation, with touch, where matter becomes imbued with an idea or a question.

The gallery
Located in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, in the heart of the Carré Rive Gauche, 1831 Art Gallery is a meeting place for collectors, artists, and professionals in architecture and design. It is a singular gallery, created in 2014 by Jean-Louis Herlédan and directed by Benedetta Battocchio. It is a place where the arts are in dialogue. A taste for decorative arts, modernist architecture, and an ethnic touch inspires the curatorial approach of 1831 Art Gallery.
The gallery organizes thematic exhibitions featuring contemporary artists from around the world. It is deeply involved in promoting the French art scene internationally and collaborates with numerous galleries, institutions, and foundations.
