Galerie Faidherbe
Olivier Debré , France
"Laisser couler la couleur"
Olivier Debré’s work is part of the beautiful adventure of 20th-century Abstraction, of which he is one of the main figures. We present about fifteen works by Debré, titled ‘Letting the Color Flow’ is the title of the exhibition. The artist delivers the message himself: ‘Letting the color flow is the natural gesture that joins that of the Loire.’ Not only the Loire, the river of his origins, but also wherever he stays, in France (Cachan, Royan, Saint-Georges de Divonne, Toulouse) or abroad, traveling across the world. From his first drawings made in 1945 to his latest almost monochrome abstract landscapes enhanced with quite generous impastos returned to the margins, Debré has created an original pictorial language to translate nature, its beauty, its connection with man. Debré emphasizes, ‘I do not claim to be a landscapist… I translate the emotion that is in me when faced with the landscape.’
