CITY CODE
Seven Contemporary Slovak Artists
Following the exhibition INSIDERS held at the Galéria Jána Koniarka in Trnava (Slovakia, July-September 2023), which featured several artists from the French scene, Galerie Olivier Waltman invites museum director Vladimír Beskid as the curator of the exhibition CITY CODE, featuring seven contemporary Slovak artists.
The exhibition presents an overview of the contemporary Slovak art scene, bringing together the practices of seven artists who offer a critical perspective on the living conditions in our current world. The exhibition includes a body of paintings, installations, and sculpted objects: urban-influenced painting that reactivates collective memory (Michal Mráz), deconstructed fragments of architecture (Peter Cvik), the articulation between representation and geography of ancient Istroplis (Ján Vasilko), the evocation of a “retro” aesthetic (Natália Šimonová), as well as small intimate objects addressing gender relations (Pavla Sceranková) and hybrid sculptures emphasizing a certain absurdity of “urban codes” (Viktor Frešo, Marek Kvetan).
