Joachim Bandau, vue de l'exposition personnelle ''La Face cachée'', 2016, Galerie Maubert, Paris

The Galerie Maubert is dedicating a retrospective to Joachim Bandau (b. 1936), a key figure in post-war German art, bringing together over 50 years of sculptural and graphic work. The exhibition highlights a decisive turning point in his practice, which followed his encounter with Bunker Archeology by Paul Virilio: for two years, the artist focused exclusively on creating bunker drawings, addressing the traumas of the Second World War. These works are presented alongside sculptures influenced by the same architectural research, as well as a selection of ”Black Watercolors”. Produced since the 1990s, these layered compositions, in turn, reveal a tension between confinement and expansion, depth and surface.

Solo show of Joachim Bandau

The gallery

Florent Maubert founded Galerie Maubert in 2010. With an academic and curatorial background in visual arts and contemporary dance, he has chosen to create a dialogue between art forms.
Galerie Maubert leads a prospecting work towards young creation. These artists explore themes that have shaped art history and have become the basis of our modern societies: perception, study of forms, gesture, space and traces... Galerie Maubert also promotes artists already recognized by the art scene (Sylvie Fanchon, Nathalie Talec, Nicolas Floc'h...) and historical artists (Larry Bell, Joachim Bandau, Lucien Hervé...) whose recognition process is supported both economically, critically and historically.
