Galerie Taménaga

Sohei Iwata 1979, France

Galerie Taménaga is pleased to present the first solo exhibition in France of the Japanese contemporary artist Sohei Iwata.

A graduate of the Kanazawa College of Art, Sohei Iwata proved himself under the guidance of the great master Reiichi Tsuchiya. In 2003, he was awarded the Grand Prize of the Royal Ueno Museum. Since then, he has held an important place on the Japanese art scene. Although his time and energy are entirely devoted to creation, his works remain rare, both for their technical mastery and for the originality of their approach. Sohei Iwata seems intent on capturing the simplicity and fragility of the act of living. His works thus unfold in large floral arrangements, offering a deeply penetrating grace. He strives to paint this intriguing nature that allows him to express himself without falsehood through the tip of his brush. His canvases are known for their misty, vaporous sketches spreading across large formats, as well as for their immediately striking beauty.

Solo show by Sohei Iwata

The gallery

Founded in 1969 in Tokyo, Galerie Taménaga quickly established itself as a key figure in the art world, expanding its influence with additional spaces in Osaka, Paris, and Kyoto. As the first Japanese gallery to exhibit on great European masters, Galerie Taménaga continues to showcase masterpieces of Impressionism and Modernism to this day. At the same time, the gallery plays a pivotal role in supporting contemporary Japanese artists, while also revealing promising international talents.
