Presentation of the series ‘Echo’ by the artist Katarzyna Wiesiolek: ‘The ‘Echo’ series is a respectful tribute to Claude Monet. I did not reproduce his works; instead, I go to the scene, near the ponds dotted with water lilies, to experience an intimate sensation in front of these landscapes in order to give them, with simple pigments, a personal reality. Generally, in my drawings, I change the physical and objective dimension of the places from the photo; with the use of charcoal, I bring a more emotional dimension linked to the memory of the moment of the shot. The transition from a digital image to a drawn image allows me to reveal a story that is both personal and singular, leaving room for subjectivity and freedom for the viewer through the undefined and sometimes almost abstract aspect of the drawings. In the works, the use of charcoal is important; indeed, through it, I express in a sensitive way the passage of time and perhaps the nostalgia of a moment.’
