"Be The Holy"
École espagnole du XVIIᵉ siècle, Virgin of solitude, signé au dos MB, Huile sur toile, 145 x 104 cm.
Be The Holy explores the persistence of the sacred in art and its dialogue with the profane, balancing tradition and subversion. From Baroque and Flemish masterpieces to contemporary reinterpretations, the exhibition examines how religious iconography endures, transforms, or is challenged.
Classical works by Eustache Le Sueur and Giovanni Battista Salvi embody faith through light, body, and gesture, creating a hypnotic connection to the divine. In contrast, Ashley Bickerton’s *The Crucifixion* (1997) and Mike Bouchet’s deconstructions of religious symbols reveal spirituality’s collision with modernity and consumerism. Artists like Emily Ludwig Shaffer and Amélie Bigard explore a fragmented, ironic sacred, questioning its place in a disenchanted world.
The exhibition expands transcendence beyond religion, incorporating NASA imagery where space exploration becomes a mystical quest. *Be The Holy* does not impose a truth but confronts visions where spirituality—religious, critical, or scientific—remains an enduring pursuit.
