The Humans Season
Wole Lagunju, If the blind leads the blind, 2021, encre sur papier, 61 x 45 cm
The gallery is pleased to present African and diaspora artists Wole Lagunju, Soly Cissé and Adewumi Oyeyemi, with the exhibition The Humans Season, a title that refers to the harsh conditions faced by rural communities in the Ekiti highlands, Adewumi’s native region. At the crossroads of Western mythologies and indigenous cultures, Wole Lagunju abolishes the boundaries between past and present, recontextualising the parable of biblical origin: If the blind lead the blind… With Soly Cissé’s collages, ready made with a double meaning, the three artists concentrate social, political and environmental concerns, opening their works to all times.
Exhibition from May 11 to June 15, 2023.
The gallery
The Marion Chauvy Gallery located in Paris in the Quartier Art Drouot (Q.A.D) since 1997 has represented from the beginning the international artistic currents of the immediate post-war period, lyrical abstraction, figurations of the 60s and Cobra group. Since 2016, the focus has been on the intergenerational and interdisciplinary confrontations of artists, established and emerging, rooted in the socio-cultural realities of contrasting geographical regions, whose works dialogue between eras, cultures, arts and mediums. The gallery has contributed to and produced the first exhibitions in Paris of artists such as Soly Cissé, Wole Lagunju, Victor Olaoyé, Samuel Nnorom, Tonia Nneji, Ibrahim Ballo, Adewumi Oyeyemi and remains committed to approaches that bear witness to the transversalities between disciplines such as during his collaboration with Mossi Traoré, who expresses in his Haute Couture collections, what binds him to the world of art. The gallery has collaborated with institutions such as the French Institute, the Cité Internationale des Arts, the CAC Passerelle in Brest, the Center Montevidéo in Marseille, the Pernod-Ricard Foundation, for loans of works or in support of projects and residences.
